Geocaching as a Team Event
What is Geocaching?
Geocaching is a location-based activity using GPS devices. Small teams follow a series of coordinates and search for carefully hidden containers (geocaches). Even when standing at the correct location, the cache often remains hidden — only careful observation and teamwork lead to the discovery.
The tasks encourage creativity, logical thinking, and teamwork. Upon request, customized puzzles related to your company or corporate history can also be integrated.
Teams are supported throughout the entire event. The experience begins with a group introduction, and a helpline is available during the entire activity.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about geocaching as a team event.
What makes it fun? What is the challenge?
We believe that people naturally enjoy searching for something and eventually finding it.
Discovering something that is hidden in plain sight creates excitement and a lasting sense of achievement.
Navigating through an unfamiliar environment and gradually reaching the goal creates satisfaction and a spirit of discovery. Individual clues slowly come together to form a complete picture.
Team communication develops naturally throughout the activity — playfully, actively, and with a shared objective.
Using the GPS devices is part of the fun as well: they are intuitive, easy to learn, and add an extra technical element to the experience.
Where can geocaching take place?
Tell us your hotel or preferred region and we will design the geocaching event specifically for your group.
About half of our clients prefer an urban setting such as parks, city centers, or landmarks, while the other half chooses routes in nature — often as circular walks or as a route from the hotel to a restaurant.
The route usually covers between 3 and 6 km with 0 to 150 meters of elevation gain and is adapted to the duration, terrain, and fitness level of the group.
What types of events is geocaching suitable for?
Geocaching is often booked as a standalone business event, company outing, or incentive activity. It also works perfectly as a side event for conferences, meetings, or conventions — usually close to the event venue.
Geocaching is also frequently used for team trainings, leadership trainings, kick-offs, onboarding programs, apprentice events, Christmas parties, summer events, and customer events.
International groups and mixed teams especially benefit from the playful and language-independent nature of the activity.
Depending on the goals of the event, the format can focus on cooperation, competition, communication, navigation, or teamwork.
What group sizes are suitable for geocaching?
We recommend geocaching events for groups ranging from 5 to 150+ participants. Thanks to our extensive inventory of GPS devices and specialized game systems, we can also successfully organize events for several hundred participants. We are also happy to create offers for smaller groups. The group is usually divided into teams of 4 to 8 people. Each team receives its own GPS devices and searches for its own geocaches. When comparing providers, pay attention to team size and the actual number of GPS devices provided per team.
How long does a GPS event last?
Including introduction and wrap-up, a geocaching event usually lasts between 2 and 3.5 hours.
We adapt the duration to your needs and ensure that the schedule is maintained despite different team speeds.
Thanks to our experience, we can accurately manage and estimate the duration through the design of the route, cache locations, and puzzles.
How many caches are hidden?
Individual geocaches are hidden for each team. With 10 teams and 5 individual finds per team, this already results in 50 different caches. In addition, there are usually shared stations at central points whose coordinates are known to all teams. This means that each team typically finds 6 to 7 caches. The high number of individually prepared hiding spots is one of the key quality features of teaminprogress. When comparing offers, pay attention not only to group size but also to the actual number of hidden caches.
Who hides the caches?
Unlike public geocaching, we personally prepare and hide all caches for each event. The caches are individually measured and placed, usually the day before the event. Routes are carefully designed to ensure safety, enjoyable gameplay, and fully legal hiding spots. When comparing providers, check whether caches are individually prepared or permanently installed.
How accurate are the coordinates?
The coordinates are precisely measured during preparation and programmed into the GPS devices. We use GARMIN GPSMAP 64s devices — high-quality outdoor GPS units with excellent reception and highly accurate navigation.
Under good conditions, the devices guide teams to within approximately 1–2 meters of the target point. Only then does the actual search for the carefully hidden geocache begin. In difficult environments — such as dense forests or between tall buildings — accuracy may decrease. We take these conditions into account during preparation and adjust the hiding spots accordingly.
The large color display provides excellent map visibility and easy orientation. Professional-grade equipment is an essential part of a successful geocaching experience, which is why we deliberately use high-quality GPS devices instead of simple smartphone solutions.
Is geocaching physically demanding?
No. Typically, participants walk around 4 km at a comfortable pace. If a more athletic experience is desired, the route can be adapted to more challenging terrain.
Is geocaching competitive?
We offer different game formats depending on the goals and dynamics of the group.
For many clients, the shared experience is the main focus. In this format, geocaching is cooperative, without performance pressure, and centered around fun, communication, and teamwork. The puzzles and tasks are solved together at the end.
Other groups prefer a playful competitive element. In this case, the challenges are designed accordingly and the event concludes with a small award ceremony.
In both formats, the focus is not primarily on speed or reaching the destination first. The emphasis lies on shared experiences, orientation, communication, and enjoying the journey together.
What happens at the end of the event?
Company outings often conclude in a restaurant or shared venue, where the puzzles are solved and the day’s experiences are reflected upon together.
When geocaching is used as part of a team training program, the event concludes with a debriefing session focused on previously defined team goals and structured reflection on teamwork, communication, and shared experiences.
In some cases, organizational requirements make it more practical to conclude the event individually with each team rather than with the entire group together.
